"One of the very best" - Fabrizio Romano laments the downfall of Paul Pogba
Frenchman set to be banned for a long time
When he was in his pomp, Paul Pogba was a world beater. The memories of him marauding around the football pitch are enough to bring a smile to the face of football watchers everywhere.
Sadly, it’s been a while since that Paul Pogba has been seen.
Ever since signing for Manchester United, it seems that the Frenchman’s career has taken a nose dive.
A combination of injuries, poor form and his relationship with Jose Mourinho all appeared to contribute to his star losing some of its shine.
His career hasn’t really hit the heights since being back at Juventus after that ill-fated sojourn to Old Trafford, and an expected ban for failing a drugs test will be the latest in a long line of issues that the player has had to suffer.
For Fabrizio Romano, a seasoned watcher of Italian football as well as being one of the most influential transfer experts on the planet, it’s a sad way for Pogba’s time at the top to be coming to an end.
‘I just feel sorry for Paul Pogba. One of the very best talents I've ever seen when he was at Juventus, joining on a free deal from Man United. He had the potential to win the Ballon d'Or in my opinion... he was insane,’ he wrote in his exclusive Daily Briefing column.
‘Then, life outside of football is not always easy for stars like Pogba and I think that created an issue. He was also unlucky with injuries for long time. It's really sad to me, as Pogba was really an incredible talent.’
It’s hard to believe that just five years ago Pogba was a World Cup winner with France, and it’s a great shame that he’ll be remembered as much for his misdemeanours as his brilliant successes.
