FA Cup round-up
Martinelli scores hat-trick as Arsenal ease past Pompey
Gabriel Martinelli stole the spotlight with a hat-trick as Arsenal recovered from an early scare to beat struggling Portsmouth 4-1 in the FA Cup third round.
Colby Bishop put Pompey ahead inside three minutes, but an Andre Dozzell own goal quickly levelled things.
Martinelli then scored twice around Noni Madueke’s missed penalty before completing his treble in the 72nd minute to seal a comfortable win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Woeful Man United dumped out of FA Cup
Manchester United’s turbulent season took another hit as Danny Welbeck scored yet again against his former club, helping Brighton claim their first-ever FA Cup win over the Red Devils.
Brajan Gruda struck early before Welbeck added a second, and although Benjamin Sesko pulled one back late on, United couldn’t complete the comeback.
Teenager Shea Lacey was sent off, and United failed to reach the fourth round for the first time in 12 years.
