Paris Saint-Germain have agreed a deal to sign Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov for €20 million from Krasnodar.

Following the departure of Keylor Navas, PSG have been in the market for a goalkeeper to not only provide back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma, but also challenge the Italian.

With the dust barely settling on their French Cup triumph over Lyon last weekend, PSG have landed their man in Safonov.

Fabrizio Romano reported via X.com on Tuesday that the deal was done, subject to a medical.

Romano wrote: “Matvey Safonov to Paris Saint-Germain, here we go! Agreement sealed for Russian GK to join PSG from Krasnodar as revealed on Sunday.

“€20m package agreed, add-ons included. Contract until June 2029 for Sazonov who’s set to sign after medical tests.”

Fabrizio Romaon tweet confirming Matvey Safonov's move to Paris Saint Germain.

The 25-year-old has been capped at every age group for Russia and currently has 13 caps for the senior side, including two appearances at Euro 2020.

The shot stopper has spent his entire career in the Russian Premier Liga, but is now set to take his talents to the big stage.

Safonov made 30 appearances in all competitions for Krasnodar last season, keeping 11 clean sheets.

Romano had taken to X.com on Sunday to report that PSG view the Russian as a huge talent.

It’s set to be a busy summer in Paris as the French champions prepare for life after Kylian Mbappe, who is heading to Real Madrid.

It will be the first time since 2018 that PSG haven’t had the France international as part of their squad, and it now means that each member of the famous front three have left, with Mbappe’s departure following those of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

PSG have been linked with a possible move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, as they embark on the impossible task of trying to replace Mbappe, who scored 256 goals in 308 appearances.

Luis Enrique will be under pressure to bring that elusive Champions League trophy to Paris next season.
