Pep Guardiola issues update on the future of João Cancelo at Man City
Man City manager has revealed the decision will be taken at the end of the season.
João Cancelo's future will be determined at the end of the current season, according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
Since January 2023, Cancelo has not appeared for Man City. Later that month, he was loaned to Bayern Munich and subsequently to Barcelona.
The Portugal international has recently faced a difficult time at the Spanish club following unimpressive performances against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga.
Fabrizio Romano has provided the information on his X account about Guardiola's comments regarding Cancelo's future.
The Man City manager said, as quoted by Romano:
"We didn't discuss Cancelo's future yet".
"We will discuss at the end of the season", Pep said.
Cancelo signed a contract with Man City in 2022, 11 months before he was loaned to Bayern.
He is still under contract with the Premier League champions until 2027.
The Portuguese player's loan agreement with Barcelona expires at the end of the current season, although he has stated that he would want to extend his stay at the Spanish club.
Like Guardiola said, nothing is currently decided on the future of the Portuguese full-back.
The club will take the decision at the end of the season.
After Cancelo's exit, Kyle Walker has played at right-back for Man City and has done a brilliant job for the club.
The Man City manager would be hoping Walker and co. are on their top form as they enter the final stage of the season.
Guardiola and his team have just six games left in the Premier League this season.
Man City visit Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night and then take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update about Man City’s interest in Jamal Musiala and Lucas Paqueta.
