PSG "will be stronger" next season without Kylian Mbappe
His seven-year spell in Paris will end this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique is feeling positive despite the impending departure of club icon Kylian Mbappe.
In a video message posted on Friday night, Mbappe officially confirmed that he would be leaving PSG at the end of the current season.
The 25-year-old did not reveal where he was moving to but it is well known that his destination will be Real Madrid.
Since moving to Paris from AS Monaco in 2017, Mbappe has netted 255 goals in 306 games for PSG - making him the club’s all-time leading scorer.
Mbappe has bagged 43 goals in 46 matches this season.
Those remarkable figures suggest that Mbappe’s exit will be a big blow to PSG.
However, Enrique has claimed that his team will be even better next season, despite losing their current star frontman.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on X.com, Enrique said at a press conference on Saturday: “We all knew that Kylian Mbappe was gonna leave PSG.
“No changes, it’s all the same for us. I wish Mbappe all the best.
“I remain convinced that next season we will be stronger. Mark my words. PSG will be stronger next season.”
PSG have already wrapped up a third consecutive Ligue 1 title with three rounds of fixtures remaining - against Toulouse (Sunday), Nice (May 15) and Metz (May 19).
But this has not been a brilliant campaign for the French giants by their high standards.
Indeed, PSG can only achieve a maximum points total of 79 - which would be their lowest haul from a full league season since 2011/12.
Nevertheless, Mbappe will get the chance to end his PSG career on a high because his last appearance for the club is expected to come on May 25 in the French Cup final against Lyon.
That game will give Mbappe an opportunity to win his 15th trophy with PSG.
