Revealed: Chelsea's pre-planned end-of-season agreement with Mauricio Pochettino
Ben Jacobs with the latest on Pochettino's job safety at Stamford Bridge.
Ben Jacobs has posted on X to provide an update on the situation with Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea following two bad results in the Premier League.
The Blues have suffered back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Everton, and are on a run of just one win from their last five, with things not looking like improving under Pochettino despite the change in management over the summer and a flurry of new signings to strengthen the squad.
Still, Jacobs seems confident that Chelsea still have a long-term plan in place, so will hold talks with Pochettino at the end of the season for a sort of appraisal of how things have gone, which suggests the Argentine is not in any immediate danger of losing his job.
“Understanding on Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea is that right from the start both parties agreed to review progress at the end of the season in a kind of two-way appraisal,” Jacobs said.
“This was pre-planned and thus there’s currently no indication Pochettino won't be given time and backing.”
Jacobs also added some insight into how Chelsea might approach the January transfer window and how much influence Pochettino himself might have on signings.
He added: “Regarding January, the recruitment model will function much the same. Pochettino will naturally have a say, and perhaps more so than summer given he’s had time to bed in, but Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley still very much still leading things.”
