Spain secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Portugal to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, breaking the deadlock deep into stoppage time.
The Round of 16 clash at Dallas Stadium appeared destined for extra time after 90 minutes of tense, cagey football between the Iberian rivals.
However, in the 91st minute, Spain capitalized on a quick free kick from Rodri; Ferran Torres slipped a clever pass down the channel to Mikel Merino, who calmly slotted a low, hard shot into the bottom corner to win the match.

USA knocked out by a determined Belgium side
Belgium produced a ruthless performance to beat the USA 4-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 16, ending the hosts’ run in emphatic fashion.
Charles De Ketelaere was the star early on, scoring twice in the first half, with goals in the 9th and 33rd minutes.
The USA briefly gave themselves hope through Malik Tillman, who scored in the 31st minute, but Belgium quickly regained control.
Hans Vanaken added Belgium’s third in the 57th minute before Romelu Lukaku completed the win deep into stoppage time in the 93rd minute.
