Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has returned to Portugal after meeting with West Ham United on Monday.
Amorim traveled to England for talks with the Premier League club, who plan to replace David Moyes at the end of the season with the Portuguese manager.
The 39-year-old manager was being pursued by Liverpool to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the end of the season.
However, talks with the Merseyside club are currently on standby, according to Fabrizio Romano who reported on his X account.
Romano posted the following update on his account:
Ruben Amorim returned to Portugal after meeting West Ham board in London on Monday.
West Ham presented their project and will insist for Amorim; nothing done yet, while discussions with Liverpool are on stand-by.
Amorim will discuss his future steps with his agents.
If West Ham could replace David Moyes as manager with Sporting boss Amorim, it would be quite the coup for the Hammers.
Amorim is on the verge of winning the Portuguese title with his Sporting team.
After winning the Portuguese League Cup in his first management position with Braga, the Portuguese tactician has gained popularity back home.
After that, he was hired by Sporting in March 2020, and during his first full season there, the team defeated Benfica and Porto to win the league title.
While at Sporting, Amorim also won two more Taca de Liga titles.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Liverpool's pursuit of Amorim and who is West Ham's other target apart from the Portuguese manager.
The race to appoint new managers is set to intensify in the coming weeks with a number of clubs looking to make new appointments ahead of next season.
West Ham are keen to hire the Sporting manager but he will now discuss the options with his agents before deciding on his future.
