Sergi Roberto has started talks to extend his Barcelona contract
The versatile player is on the verge of extending his stay at the club.
Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto praised the decision to keep coach Xavi Hernandez for next season, saying that he is the best option to contend for titles in the future.
Roberto is one of the first members of the first-team squad to react to the manager's decision to honour his contract and change his mind about leaving Barcelona at the end of this season.
There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Roberto at the Catalan club.
However, with his latest comments, he has hinted that he will stay at Barcelona.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano on his X account, the Spaniard praised Xavi's decision to stay at the club.
Roberto said, as quoted by Romano:
"We are very happy with Xavi staying. With him and this team, we will be able to compete for every single title".
Barcelona boss Xavi recently stated his desire to keep the experienced player at the Camp Nou.
Xavi said, as reported by Romano:
“I want Sergi Roberto to stay and sign new deal, it’s up to him now”.
“The club and the player are both aware of my plan to keep Sergi, he’s always been key player for me”.
Barcelona have benefited from his presence this season even with limited resources.
It seems doubtful that they will find such an economical, adaptable rotational component in the transfer market that is at ease being utilised whenever and whenever.
The experienced, verstile player provides Barcelona with the right balance in an otherwise young squad.
One of Barcelona's star players is attracting interest from Manchester United.
