🚨 Toney or Osimhen to Chelsea? Fabrizio Romano reveals which transfer could be more likely for CFC
Chelsea need a striker this January, but will it be Toney or Osimhen?
Chelsea are likely to make a new striker a top priority for the January transfer window, and Fabrizio Romano has perhaps indicated that Brentford’s Ivan Toney would be the more likely option for the Blues as it’s hard to see Victor Osimhen leaving Napoli in the middle of the season.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column today, Romano explained that Chelsea could also consider signing a centre-back this January if the right opportunity comes along, though for the time being a big signing at centre-forward is seemingly higher on their list of priorities.
Toney and Osimhen both look like ideal options for Chelsea, but it seems the latter would probably be a tad ambitious, despite his issues with Napoli this season that have cast some doubt over his future.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Brentford will make it easy for clubs to sign Toney, who has also been linked with Arsenal, but it seems like Chelsea might do better to pursue the England international if they don’t want to waste their time this January.
“A new striker for sure will be discussed (by Chelsea) ahead of January, while a new centre-back can be a possibility in case they find an opportunity but they’re not desperate to get one,” Romano said. “It depends on the market opportunities, so I can’t give names for the moment, but they have excellent directors so I’m sure they will find good options if that’s what they decide.
“For the striker position, we already know about links with Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen, and for sure either of them would be top top signings. For Osimhen, however, I still think a January move away from Napoli is looking difficult.”
