Tottenham preparing new plan for forward, discussions to follow
It's been a frustrating season for him...
Tottenham are preparing a new loan for young forward Alejo Veliz after his lack of playing time with Sevilla since joining them, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The talented 20-year-old looks an exciting prospect for Spurs, but he’s not currently getting the experience he needs with his temporary spell in La Liga.
According to Romano, posting on X earlier today, this now means Veliz will return to Tottenham, who are preparing a different plan for the player and another loan spell for the future in order to get him the development he needs.
“Tottenham are preparing new loan with different plan for Alejo Veliz for next season as he’s not playing at Sevilla,” Romano said.
“Spurs want guaranteed game time for Alejo for next year as discussions will follow in the upcoming months. Veliz, set to return from Sevilla in any case.”
Veliz first made his breakthrough at Rosario Central before moving to Tottenham in summer 2023, and the club will no doubt hope this ends up being a smart long-term investment for them.
THFC have a proud history of promoting and developing young players, so Veliz looks to be in a good place for his career, though a loan spell where he's playing regularly would also undoubtedly be a big help for him.
It's been a challenging season for Sevilla, who have also not found much room for youngster Hannibal Mejbri since signing him on loan from Manchester United in January.
With the club only recently moving away from the relegation zone, it makes sense that Sevilla are perhaps being cautious about handing out playing time to inexperienced young players who are only at the club temporarily, but it could undoubtedly be frustrating for the likes of Man Utd and Spurs as they look for their players to get more minutes under their belts.
