Xavi names two Barcelona youngsters he hopes "can sign new contracts here"
Barca have already secured a new deal for Pau Cubarsi.
Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is keen to secure the long-term futures of the club’s next generation of stars.
Earlier this week, Barca confirmed that 17-year-old centre-back Pau Cubarsi had signed a new contract until June 2027.
That deal includes a buyout clause set at a whopping €500 million.
Xavi now wants to see more talented youngsters put pen to paper, including right-back Hector Fort and striker Marc Guiu.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano via X.com on Sunday, Xavi said: “We trust our own young players. I’m very happy with Pau Cubarsi signing new deal, it’s an excellent news.
“I hope that Hector Fort, Marc Guiu and the others can sign new contracts here.”
Cubarsi - who has been capped twice by Spain at senior international level - has featured in 20 matches for Barca this season after making his first-team debut in January.
In April, Cubarsi became the youngest defender to start in a UEFA Champions League quarter-final - just 79 days after his 17th birthday.
Fort, who is also 17, made his Barca debut in December and has so far featured in eight first-team fixtures, including as a starter in March’s 3-0 away win over Atletico Madrid.
Guiu’s first appearance for Barca was in October when he netted the winning goal as a substitute in a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
The 18-year-old then scored in a 3-2 defeat at Royal Antwerp in the Champions League in December.
As reported by Romano in Saturday’s Daily Briefing, Barca are also in talks with 20-year-old defensive midfielder Marc Casado over a new deal.
Those talks have been ongoing since April and are progressing well.
Barca have four La Liga fixtures remaining this season, including three in seven days next week.
After hosting Real Sociedad on Monday, Xavi’s men will travel to Almeria on Thursday before a home clash with Rayo Vallecano three days later.
Their final match of the 2023/24 campaign will be away at Sevilla on May 25.
Barca currently sit third in the table but could also possibly finish second or fourth.
