Ange Postecoglou discusses Timo Werner's future at Tottenham
Werner has impressed on his loan spell at the North London club..
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, hinted at their first summer addition after praising the influence that Timo Werner, who joined the club on loan in January.
Following his January transfer from RB Leipzig, Werner, the former Chelsea attacker, has been playing for a permanent deal after impressing the Spurs manager.
Due to Richarlison's injury and captain Son Heung-min's absence for international duty in January, Werner was put in charge of giving the Spurs frontline more offensive firepower.
Despite Son and Richarlison being back in the lineup, he has played both centre and left flank and is still a vital member of the team.
The German attacker's presence prompted Issa Kabore to put the ball into his own net during Saturday's 2-1 comeback victory against Luton. Later, the former Chelsea player was instrumental in setting up his captain's late winner.
When questioned about the German at his press conference today, Postecoglou had nothing but positive things to say.
The Tottenham manager confirmed that no decision has been taken yet on making the German international's move permanent.
He said: “The decisions will be made at the appropriate time”.
“In my opinion, he’s been a great signing. He's been really important part of our structure.”
Given Postecoglou's high regard for Werner and his desire to build on an impressive first season following the departure of Harry Kane, there is a good possibility that the option will be exercised.
Werner returned to the Bundesliga after leaving Chelsea in 2022, although his effect was not as great as it was during his first stint at Leipzig.
Spurs rushed to loan the 28-year-old in January after learning of his availability and wanting to provide themselves a short-term alternative.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update about Tottenham's plan for Alejo Veliz.
