😱 Could this major Man City summer saga be back on if Kalvin Phillips leaves?
Should City try again for this summer target?
Manchester City still appreciate Lucas Paqueta after targeting the West Ham United midfielder during the summer transfer window.
In the end, City went for Matheus Nunes instead, though Fabrizio Romano admits that there could be room for new signings in the middle of the park if Kalvin Phillips leaves as expected this January.
For the time being, it’s not entirely clear where Phillips could end up, or if he’ll leave permanently or just on loan, so these could be factors in determining what City do in the January market.
Still, has Romano hinted that Paqueta might be one worth keeping an eye on again soon, following recent reports about the Brazilian’s future?
“We’re again seeing Lucas Paqueta being linked with Manchester City, which I think is to be expected for a quality player, but it’s just speculation for now as far as I’m aware,” Romano said.
“Paqueta has always been appreciated by City, as we’ve known for a long time but there’s nothing new happening at the moment. City signed Matheus Nunes in the summer in that position, so another similar signing in midfield might not make sense as a priority.
“Of course, Kalvin Phillips could leave, as I reported last week, but for now there’s no decision made on the midfielder position for January, and it will also depend on the formula for the Phillips deal.”
