EXCL: Fabrizio Romano explains "important" developments that could influence Man Utd's January transfer plans
What ins and outs will we see at Old Trafford this January?
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has spoken exclusively to the Daily Briefing’s podcast The Debrief today to discuss all things Manchester United.
As well as the latest on the potential Man Utd takeover and the truth behind stories about Sheikh Jassim wanting Kylian Mbappe, all of which you can follow live here from 1.45pm UK time, Romano touched on the club’s plans in defence this January.
It seems the fitness of Lisandro Martinez is likely to be key to determining what the Red Devils decide to do in that department, as well as any potential offers that could come in for Harry Maguire.
He said: “It will be important to see what happens with the injury to Lisandro Martinez and the situation with Harry Maguire. If they receive a proposal for Maguire they could invest in a new centre-back in January, or else they will wait until the summer. My understanding is that a priority for 2024 is a centre-back, and it’s difficult to get top deals done during January.”
Romano added that he can see Jadon Sancho leaving Old Trafford, and if he does move on then it could mean the club discuss the prospect of signing a new winger to replace him.
He added: “I see Jadon Sancho leaving in January, it’s hard to see things working for him and Manchester United. There will be internal discussions then to decide if they want to invest in a new winger or not.”
