Liverpool set sights on "very interesting" versatile Hoffenheim ace says Christian Falk
Second fastest German after Leroy Sane
Though they’ve started the 2023/24 season well, Liverpool’s recruitment department need to still be on the lookout for the best young talents available if the club want to continue improving.
The Reds, by their own admission, had a poor campaign in 2022/23 but to their credit appear to have rectified any deficient areas of the squad and now look back to somewhere approaching the sweet spot that they hit a few seasons ago.
It’s perhaps no coincidence that Liverpool are scouting players from the Bundesliga again, given Jurgen Klopp’s experience of the German top-flight and sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke’s knowledge of the marketplace there.
The last time that the Reds plundered Hoffenheim for one of their talents they hit the jackpot in Roberto Firmino, and if lightning strikes twice with their potential acquisition of rapid 20-year-old Maximilian Beier, fans of the Anfield outfit won’t have any complaints.
“I heard he’s definitely on the list, as he brings something that’s very interesting for Liverpool,” Christian Falk told The Daily Briefing.
“His high speed this season was 35.45kmph. It’s also really good for Germany; he’s the second-fastest German player behind Leroy Sane. His contract at Hoffenheim runs until 2025 and I heard he has a release clause; he’ll be a little bit more expensive for English clubs but for German clubs he’ll only cost €20m. So you see, Liverpool are looking around at the Bundesliga again.
“He’s a player you can educate, fast, can play as a striker as well as on the wings, which would be beneficial for Liverpool’s rotations in the forward line. I think he’s interesting.”
Would Maximilian Beier be the right type of hire for Liverpool at this point? Or should they be looking at more established stars? Let us know in the comments!
