Revealed: Important clarification on £100m Bruno Guimaraes release clause
Could any clubs get special treatment?
Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media site X to clarify some transfer speculation regarding the £100m release clause in Bruno Guimaraes’ contract at Newcastle United.
The Brazil international recently put pen to paper on a new deal at St James’ Park, and it contains a £100m buy-out clause that could pave the way for a big move at some point in the near future.
However, Romano insists there’s no truth to stories claiming that Barcelona or indeed any other specific club would get any preferential treatment - the £100m clause is simply there for anyone to trigger if they can afford it and choose to do so.
“Understand there's no specific release clause for Barcelona or any specific club into Bruno Guimaraes new deal at Newcastle,” Romano posted.
“The only clause is valid for all the clubs and it’s £100m, as revealed in September. No other clauses, sources confirm.”
If Barcelona do end up trying to sign Bruno at some point, it seems clear they’ll have to pay whatever anyone else would have to pay, so it remains to be seen where the 25-year-old could move to next, or indeed if he moves at all as he remains part of a promising project at Newcastle.
